Michigan Pool Fence Law at a Glance
- Minimum 4’ fence height
- Self-latching, self-closing gates
- Non-climbable materials with < 4″ spacing
This law applies to in-ground pools, above-ground pools (depending on access), and temporary setups if water depth exceeds 24″.
Exceptions
If the home’s structure prevents access to the pool (e.g. locking doors with alarms), some municipalities may allow that as a substitute—but always check locally.
